Papers, Please
Episode 9
intermediate
Hello there everybody and welcome to another one of these little episodes where we play this game, Papers, Please. We're recording another episode. Again, I forgot the number, but I am trying to guide you through this game and explain some more of the English involved to hopefully learn something new and interesting. So let's hop into it. We have some pretty engaging things going on. We had to restart a section. So at this day, we got arrested and the game ended. So we found an end to the game on day 15, but not a very good one. There's a lot further that we want to get in the game. And so we are actually, we went back in time a bit to day 11. And we went forward. So now we're starting again on day 13. And we're going to continue day 13, 14. And we're going to start over again. And things are already different, remember. The money's different. We refuse to take the money. There's things happening because we let the guy through that didn't get through the first time. So some interesting things happening. But last time, the day was cut short by a bomber coming through and exploding on December 4th, so yesterday. And now there's a new director at the Ministry of Admission. So now there are stricter protocols promised at the border. Those words we already learned, right? There being a lot more letting less people in. There's more rules for us at the border, which means more work that we got to do. December 5th, 1982. all right so here's the official bulletin inspector the new director is unsatisfied with the level of scrutiny afforded to foreigners from today off forward all foreigner entrants must present a recent identity supplement listing height weight and appearance the rulebook documents chapter has been updated So now we have to also get their ID, no, not ID card, their ID supplement. We've already seen this before because we were in this day before, but with slight changes. So let's see what happens. We still have to give these to engineers. And we've still got this stuff. I'll hide it up. So we already let through one person. But we still have to look for Stefani or Mikael. I forget who we're still waiting on. I'll hide these up here. But let's start with the day. We're trying to get through people. We're trying to get through these days relatively quickly without any incident. So this person is visiting friends. How long will you stay? Just one month. Okay. Enter by is good. That's in the future. Just visiting. These numbers match. Mariana Koch. Is this seal the correct one? Let's see. Docs. Work pass ID supplement entry permit. That is the correct seal. Yep. Okay, so expires in the future. That's the thumbprint, long hair, sure. 54 kilograms, 170 centimeters, that looks right. Outer grouse, I think that's Antegria, Koch, Mariana. Expires 1984 okay, you look good Mariana. I think cause no trouble Okay, she was good. This is nerve-wracking Okay, so this person needs their entry permit Um, what's your permit? Where's your entry permit? Okay. Thank you. So Alexei Medici, Alexei Medici, short hair, 61 kilograms, 176. Tall, sure, visit, she's at one month already, right? A few weeks, that's a month, yeah. Enter by, those numbers match. Expires in a few days, and this expires in the future. True Glorian, woman. I think that that is fine as well. Okay, another person. Cause no trouble, please, Alexei. Okay, and here's the guard coming in. Hello, Mr. Guard. Good morning. You detained three people. I did. Bonus is good, they pay okay. It's not much, though. Maybe you detain more people and we do better. Again, I don't really want to detain people because I have money, thanks to the easy mode that I turned on. So I'm not sure. Okay, Kowalski, Joshua, staying a couple weeks. That is correct. Joshua Kowalski, 14 days to visit. Yep. Expires in the future. Expires in the future. Expires in the future. Import 1943. Those numbers match. Clean-shaven. Aha! You're not clean-shaven. Clean-shaven means that you don't have any hair on your face. But he has a mustache right here. So I need to figure out if it's actually him or not by checking his thumbprint. And so we need to match this and this matching data and then this and this Also matching data. Okay, that is Joshua Kowalski and Then everything else seems to be okay 84 kilograms 177. Yep. Good job. Joshua Kowalski. You are who you say you are. I think cause no trouble Boy yeah, so clean-shaven is when you have no hair on your face, so he would be I think clean-shaven. I think those are shadows Okay, so Emil is in Transit eight weeks, which is two months those numbers match Emil Jensen that is that the right seal? Entry permit that is the right seal yep enter by in the future expires tomorrow Okay Curly hair that matches that expires in the future post on male born in the past That looks like him. I Don't see any problems with this, but I feel very nervous that there is something wrong It's been too many people in a row that have no issues with their documents. I Oh, incorrect purpose response. Oh, come on. You gotta be kidding me. Oh, this is the, this is the, um, this is the soccer player. You know what, last time I said no, but this time I'm gonna be like, you know what, sure, go ahead. Although, I'm getting in trouble again for it. So last warning, there's no penalty yet, they're not charging me, but yeah. Engineering, ha ha. So I can give you this. One year of work. Mustache Ivan Work and I think and again, I think that with and with engineers everything is going to be fine And so I'm not even gonna really check too much but I have to give him back all of these documents cause no trouble sir I hope you're a good engineer and you make me some money in the future. I All right, papers please. Purpose of your check, so Frank Alvaro visiting friends, couple weeks, visit 14 days, sure, those numbers match. Alvaro Frank, good. That is that one we just saw, enter buys, good, okay. This one is in the future. He's got a mustache, he's got the mustache right there. 78 kilograms, 175 centimeters. I think that's right. Yeah, okay, he's just a little, He lied a little bit. I don't know if he's 175 centimeters. Oh, but the expiration date is in the past. Your passport expired, sir. I'm very sorry to tell you that you need to have a valid passport in order to travel. That's actually a rule in all countries, even in ones that aren't as authoritarian. You could say. Transit through Arstotzka. A couple days, ID is a total pain. Okay, so she definitely has an issue with her documents. Short curly hair, 60 kilograms, 184 centimeters. Again, she doesn't feel like she's that tall. Discrepancy detected. Yeah, your information doesn't look correct. Your shoes are different. Ivana Kuduzova. Oops, no, these two, there we go. Matching data and keep clicking on the wrong thing. Okay, that's you. That's in the future, those are all good, and that's you. That is in the future, Tsukido. That's Impor, female in the past. Those numbers match. Transit, that's in the future. Okay, you look good. Have a good day, Mrs. I already forgot your name. Bah. I mean, you got through, didn't you? It probably would have been faster, but you know. She's saying that she should have spent her money on a bribe. Visiting relatives, 30 days is one month. Enter wives in the future. Those numbers match. Rushika Demiki, short hair, 64 kilograms, 175 centimeters. Again, she looks a little short. Nope, that's fine. Expires tomorrow. Very good, you got in today. Date of birth in the past, that's in the future. Nobody's done. All right, go ahead. Have a good day, cause no trouble. All right, come back tomorrow at 6 a.m. Okay. We got through the end of day 13. We're not going to move. That would be too expensive. Oh, wait. It's the cheaper one. We could move down. So we could go, yeah, that's what it is. We could go to a cheaper apartment and save on rent and heat and food and everything. That's not terrible. We could move, but I think we're gonna have that option tomorrow as well. So I'm going to continue as we are. We still have a little bit of money. We have $10. And if we need to, we can move down to earn a little bit of extra money to save on the move. So let's go into December 6th and this is the day where they're talking about Arstotzka being a criminal safe haven with a dubious reputation. So let's just go into work and let's see what happens on December 6th, 1982. All right. Here's our bulletin. I've got to get everything settled again. All right. These go there. This goes up here. The Ministry of Justice has requested our support. Daily bulletins will now contain a listing of the top three most wanted criminals. Check faces against entrants and detain suspects immediately. Great. Okay, so now we're back here where we have to be careful with the people that we let in, if they look like these people, because they were apparently wanted criminals. So just more work for us to do, which is annoying. Because this is her. This is this lady is got Slova Natalia. Let me through or you will regret it if you're going to threaten me. Yeah, you said you're gonna, I'm gonna regret it. But she also doesn't sound like a criminal. She said, I was surprised that she's on the list of criminals, which feels bad. It's like now am I like detaining random normal people? I don't know. Visiting a few months in the future, those numbers match. Israel Thissa, Israel Thissa, that is correct. She's got curly bobbed hair, sure. 55 kilograms, 158 centimeters, way taller than that. Oh. Oh, that's just her hood, I guess. Okay. Expires in the past. I am so sorry, Israel, but your document is too old. You cannot come in because your document is too old. Next. Next. Okay. Papers, please. Where's your... Where's your passport? A passport is required, please. I have it here. Okay, why don't you give it to me? This is weird. Is it because that's this person? What do you mean no correlation? That's this person. This does not look like you. The years have been cruel. Well, like, this is you then. Oops. I want to turn off this. There we go. Okay. So that's you. In which case, this is you. Am I wrong? These look like the exact same person. All right, whatever. Okay, well, that is you, I guess, right? Kaverin Serena. I've wasted a bunch of time on that. Kaverin Serena, Orvich Von Arm, expires in the future. 45 kilograms, 162 centimeters. Yeah, date of birth is the same. Sure, go ahead. Glory Tvortotska. Um... would have sworn that was her. Whatever. He's a very round man. Engineering, I have a job here. Duration of stay, couple of months. Here you go, balding man, Joseph. Work, couple of months. Enter by in the future, Joseph Stregrad. Those numbers are the same. That's fine. This expires in a few months. That's fine. Engineering, Joseph. Engineering, Joseph Stregrad. Great rapid, yeah, looks good to me. There you go, Mr. Engineer. Have a fantastic rest of your day. Cause no trouble, please. And, oh no! Incorrect duration response. Screw you. He's an engineer. Ridiculous. You're coming to work for a year? Yeah, work one year, my ass. Thrace, Sherma, Sirma, Sirma Thrace, okay, that number looks good, that number looks good, that document looks good, then we have Sirma Thrace, healthcare for one year, which is, it's got a lot of, no, no, because we're going right into the 83, okay, that's fine. expires in the future, a description overweight, bruh. That's so not very nice. 175 centimeters, sure. Like you can say your hair or face or something, but it's being like, nah man, she's overweight. It's not like the nicest thing, but I mean, I guess whatever. It did help identify her. So yeah, is that that guy I? Think that is that guy uh-huh Maybe you should not have come. I have nothing to say I Guess I'm just gonna detain you I don't really know if these are actual criminals, but this is all that I know what I can do. I'm not supposed to let wanted criminals through and they'll, they'll charge me money. Oh, this is, I make small mistake. What? Are you a dual citizen? Like, come on, what is this? Why do you have two passports? It's a funny story, he says. I'll tell you everything. First, you give my papers back to me. All right. All right. That's fair. That's fair. I was curious. I wanted to know if you would tell me a story. So, okay, transiting to elsewhere, just 14 days, sure. Okay, these numbers are not the same. So, check again, what do you mean? I'm not gonna check again. I think I'm just gonna go to the next person now. You got denied, your documents are wrong, but I'm not necessarily gonna detain you. Wow, that doesn't really look like you. Immigration, so forever. Here, do a fingerprint thing. Stephanie Greer. Not you! It is not you, sadly. Oh? Alright. Just gonna keep this game moving. I feel like I'm getting a little better at finding the issues with people's documents. But we're supposed to find... Oh wait, was that her? Oh no! That was Stephanie Greer. I messed up. I was supposed to help them. Well, that's over. Oh, what a fool I am. I forgot again. Well, okay, glasses she does not have. This does not sound like you. I have changed. You can't just take off your glasses. 82, and that is in the future. Aha, it's not you though. Your identity doesn't match. I mean, everything else looks like you. Well, I don't know. Well, I guess we'll just keep doing that. I really don't know, I don't know what is morally correct, what is right in the game, there's so many questions. All right, immigrating, you don't have your ID supplement. Why don't you have an ID supplement, lady? I never got one. I mean, probably you didn't, but I'm not supposed to let you through. So I'm sorry, but you're gonna have to come back another day. And you are also going to have to come back another day, because that is the entire episode. We missed the other agent, because I am a fool. But we have a little bit of extra money. I'm going to spend it on upgrading the booth to get the fourth upgrade. But that is everything that we have for today. Nothing super interesting happened today except for me being a fool and forgetting to let somebody through. But we have more of the game to play. There's a lot more happening. There's a lot more part of the story that we're going to discover in future episodes. So I'll see you then. Have a great rest of your day. Bye.
